While it is legal across Canada to buy and use marijuana for recreation, it is important to understand the regulations in your province.
(for example, Quebec has stricter laws where you must be 21 year old, and you cannot buy edibles legally.)
We'll look specifically at Ontario rules, if you want to buy weed in Markham. In Ontario, you must be 19 years or older to buy, grow, possess or use cannabis. Here is a look at the basic rules.
How much can you buy?
You can buy cannabis products legally and have as much as 30 grams. If you are unsure how much that is: That would be approximately 60 to 70 pre-rolled joints.
If buying weed legally from an authorized dispensary or from the OCS.ca website, cost will vary.
An average cost for 30 grams of marijuana in Canada could be anywhere between $160 to $400. Moreover, factors that affect pricing include the type and quality of weed you choose.
Where are you allowed to use it?
You can have up to 30 grams on you and would not be breaking any provincial laws or bylaws. There are only some places where you can legally use cannabis- whether you smoke or consume edibles.
You are able to use cannabis in your home, porch, yard, or on a balcony depending on whether your unit has rules against it or not. Some outdoor parks allow it as well.
You cannot use weed in long term care or retirement homes, at work, a vehicle, a dining establishment or bar, a school or any other public area. You can face fines if you do, which are typically small for the first offence. However, after the first fine it goes up by five times for any other offences.
Laws about being under the influence
Just like alcohol, you are not allowed to drive while under the influence. Thus, do not drive to buy weed (e.g. if you're coming to our Markham dispensary), and then expect to smoke it and drive home.
There are serious penalties for doing this, which include:
-Losing your license
